Why Heng Shan Road is so important in Shanghai?
Shanghai's first bars opened on Hengshan Road, and they remain more popular than those elsewhere. Close to Xujiahui, the street has the reputation of a high-level uptown with elegant surroundings. Bars stand side by side and you can take tea or coffee there. A wide variety of bars ranging from the brash to more intimate and quiet abound to suit your every mood. The street at night can be one of the most bustling places in Shanghai.
Hengshan Road intersecting Dongping Road is where you can find a lot of modern fine-dining restaurants with great ambiance. This area is where you have the likes of Azul, Lapiz Lazuli, Simply Thai, Zapatas, Sasha’s, Anadolu, TGIF, and more. O’ Malleys is in Taicang Road which is the next intersection after Dongping Road along Hengshan Road. Eager Beaver, Free Lance and Paulaner Brauhaus are located in Yue Yang Road which intersects Dongping. Nice to take a stroll in this area. To get here, you can take either Metro Line 1 Hengshan Road or Metro Line 1 Changshu Station, or any one of the Huaihai buses.

Hengshan Bar Street The 2.3-km long Hengshan Road was built in 1922. Half a century has left on Hengshan Road a number of historical architecture and humanistic sights with alien appeal. With the growing prosperity of Xujiahui Commercial City, Hengshan Road, as a branch street of the commercial center and with its unique alien environmental feature has attracted a great number of overseas personages and returned students from abroad to invest in projects while bringing along new concept of the operation of catering and recreational businesses. On the west side of Hengshan Road is a European-style sidewalk partition fence, a public landscaped corner and a new "Long Gallery of Oil Paintings". At present, there are 167 catering, recreational and gymnastic establishments on Hengshan Road. Among them there are many bars with different styles and elegantly decorated restaurants, which offer customers with delicious food and quality service.
Hengshan Road--the street of public house
It seems the Hengshan Road under the leafy chinars is the most classical public house street in Shanghai to say that Shanghai is the most distinctive public house city in China. The longest public house street in the locality includes the areas along the Hengshan Road, Urumqi Road and Dongping Road. When roaming along these streets you would be mesmerized by the twinkling neon all your ways.
The Leisure Street at Hengshan Road
The Leisure Street at Hengshan Road was first constructed in 1922. In the 1920s and 1930s there had been many buildings of European architectural styles. At present,
Hengshan Road is flanked by luxurious parasol trees and dozens of entertainment sites, making the road a well-known entertainment and leisure street in Shanghai.
