Xian Old China Historical City Bar and Nightlife

Xi'an (西安) or historically known as Chang an, is the capital city of Shaanxi Province. Xi'an is also called the eternal city, because it is one of the oldest city in China, records the great changes of the Chinese nation just like a living history book.

For 1,000 years, the city was the capital for 13 dynasties, and a total of 73 emperors ruled here. Xi'an is the undisputed root of Chinese civilization having served as the capital city for the Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang dynasties. With so much history within the ground the city lies upon, it is no wonder that there are so many historical ruins, museums, and cultural relics to be found here. It was already influencing the world outside of the Great Wall of China as the eastern terminus of the Silk Road(丝绸之路).

Xi'an is one of famous historical sites in China. Because it is an old city, and one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China, tourism sites in Xi'an can not be seperated with city wall and ancient tombs.

The city has many important historical sites, and some are ongoing archaeological projects, such as the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang and his Terracotta Army. There are several burial mounds, tombs of the Zhou Dynasty kings located in the city. Xi'an also contains some 800 royal mausoleums and tombs from the Han Dynasty, with some of them yielding hundreds of sculpted clay soldiers, and remains of sacrificial temples from the Han era. The city has numerous Tang Dynasty pagodas and is noted for its history museum and its stele forest, which is housed in an 11th-century Confucian temple containing large stone tablets from various dynasties.

Xi'an is the great place for those who really interested with China History and China kingdom film. If we watch ancient Chinese series, the king of one dynasty residence was in Changan, which is Xi'an nowadays.

1. Museum of Qin Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses ((兵马俑)

The Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses are the most significant archeological excavations of the 20th century. Work is ongoing at this site, which is around 1.5 kilometers east of Emperor Qin Shi Huang

2. Banpo Museum
The Banpo Museum is located in the eastern outskirt of Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province. As the first museum at the prehistoric site, it was built at the base of the excavations of the Banpo site.

3. Big Wild Goose Pagoda (Dayan Ta)

As the symbol of the old-line Xi'an, Big Wild Goose Pagoda is a well-preserved ancient building and a holy place for Buddhists. It is located in the southern suburb of Xi'an City.

4. Forest of Stone Steles Museum
Once the site of the Temple of Confucius during the Northern Song dynasty (960-1127), the Forest of Stone Steles Museum is situated on Sanxue Street, near the south gate of Xi'an City Wall.

Xi'an Nightlife

Xi'an is not a very modern city in China, though the nightlife. We can not find so glamorous and sexy Bar Girls in Xi'an. Xi'an is not known for its vibrant bar and club scene. Choices for quiet evenings out are far more numerous than those for raucous benders, but that doesn't mean Xi'an is without its nightspots.


Most nightlife centers around the Drum and Bell Towers. Two large movie theatres, the A Pang Gong and Northwest Film City are located in these areas. English-language features are sometimes shown with Chinese subtitles, but many of the movies are dubbed into Chinese. Be sure to clarify at the ticket counter before going inside.

The largest and liveliest club in the city goes by the name 1+1 Disco, and is as close to a taste of home as you're likely to get. Live music prevails, as do live DJs and a healthy dance floor. Find this place at 285 Dong Dajie, a 15-minute walk from the Drum Tower.

Xi'an has a wonderful night market near the central mosque that is a must-visit for a Chowhound. They have loads of stalls with interesting and unusual foods, including loads of good sweets that are sort of reminiscent of Middle Eastern things, with a lot of honey and sesame.

At night the Bell Tower in the historical centre of the city is illuminated to provide a striking backdrop for the surrounding shops and restaurants. This is perhaps the best place to start your evening and to get a feel for the city’s nightlife and a great location to soak up the buzzing atmosphere with the spectacle of light and colour against the dark blue dome of the night sky.

Clubs 1+1 (pronounced 'yi-jia-yi' for the taxi driver) is Xian’s most popular disco where drinks flow freely and music plays until the early hours. Considered by many locals to be too noisy, the crowd is generally foreign with a few of the Xian party set. The music is up tempo, featuring everything from house to electronica.

Located at Nanyuan Gate, another popular club is Xian Longdu Disc Club, where the young and hip go to chill out and listen to the resident DJ. Great service and an inviting atmosphere make it well worth checking out. Also well known is the Goldfish Crazy Club located at 77 Xi Yi Road.



Recommended bars, clubs and cinemas

There are some lively pubs and bars crowded along the short Nandajie Street, where there is street food and restaurants open past midnight. One ofthe most famous bar street---De Fu Xiang.

1. De Fu Xiang
Although with a length that less than one mile, De Fu Xiang is actually the central part of nightlife in Xian. Scattered with over 40 bars, cafes and teahouses, it always takes on a quaint and graceful look. The bar is mainly middle and up class oriented, decorated romantically, full of cozy and exotic atmosphere. Invite yourself a cup of wine to get fully relaxed.

2. 1+1 Disco Bar
Located at No. 285 Dong Dajie, 1+1 Disco Bar is the most well-known dance club in Xian. One plus one equals what? This famous question might have many different answers for different people. Here, in the bar, the answer simply means “living it up”. Decorated in a trendy style, it includes a Disco Hall, a Slow Bar, a Champagne House and a pool in the court yard. DJs here are passionate and dancers are hot, providing you with top visual and acoustic enjoyment.
