Fuzhou, old port city of China, nightlife bars, ktv, cafes

Fuzhou (福州) is the capital city of Fujian province, and famous for its fujian language (Hokkian Language). is an old port city; Marco Polo visited it. In the 19th century, it exported more tea than any other Chinese port. The actual port is in the suburb of Mawei. In 1884, the French destroyed a dockyard at Mawei, sinking a good part of the Chinese navy and killing hundreds.

Today it is the provincial capital and administrative center, and also a major center for light industry. Nike has a factory there, and a Taiwanese firm that makes shoes for Adidas, Reebok and others has four. All are large factories, with several thousand employees each.

Several suburbs are administratively part of Fuzhou, though they are some distance away and fairly large — Mawei, Fuqing and Changle. Changle, Fuqing and various villages in the area are the main source of illegal immigrants smuggled to Western countries.

Fuzhou Language

功夫福州话版- Fuzhou dialect (ping, then the word: Hók-ciŭ-uâ)

Although the Fuzhou dialect officially defined as a dialect, but from the linguistic definition, the Fuzhou dialect with the standard Chinese language differences are different, and even can not be said of other branches of Min people to understand. In this sense, the Fuzhou dialect is a language rather than dialect.

Fuzhou dialect main passage in the People's Republic of southeastern Fujian Province Min River middle and lower reaches (including its tributaries dazhang Gutianxi Creek and River Basin) to the estuary area, covering 11 counties and cities are Fuzhou, Minhou, Wing Thailand, Minqing, Changle, Luoyuan, Lianjiang, Fuqing, Pingtan, Pingnan and Gutian, overseas Chinese organizations have said Fuzhou Fuzhou ten ap Association.

With the Fuzhou people to overseas migrants, Fuzhou dialect has also spread to Southeast Asia, Japan and the United States and other places in the Chinese community has become quite influential in overseas Chinese.
Native speakers also call it Bàng-uâ (平話), meaning the language spoken in everyday life, even in Malaysia.
eg.- Setaiwan, Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak.
Spoken in: People's Republic of China (Fuzhou and its surrounding counties); Republic of China (Matsu Islands); Malaysia (Sibu, Miri, Sarikei, Bintulu, Yong Peng, Sitiawan and Ayer Tawar); Indonesia; Singapore; and some Chinese communities in Southeast Asia and the west, particularly in the Chinatowns of New York and London .
Centered in Fuzhou City, Fuzhou dialect mainly covers eleven cities and counties, viz.: Fuzhou (福州), Pingnan (屏南), Gutian (古田), Luoyuan (羅源), Minqing (閩清), Lianjiang (連江, Matsu included), Minhou (閩侯), Changle (長樂), Yongtai (永泰), Fuqing (福清) and Pingtan (平潭). Fuzhou dialect is also the second local language in northern and middle Fujian cities and counties, like Nanping (南平), Shaowu (邵武), Shunchang (順昌), Sanming (三明) and Youxi (尤溪).

Fuzhou Nightlife

Going to Fuzhou, don't miss its nightlife and shopping. For bussinesmen, bars is the best choice in the nite. Here I list some of Fuzhou Best Bars :

1. Diyuan Gecheng
83 Shengfu Lu, Fuzhou 35001

2. Shengshi Jiaren Guoji Julebu
Yangqiao Lu, Fuzhou 350001

3. hongmofang Jiuba, Red Mill Bar
19 Jintai Lu, Fuzhou 350001

4. Rongcheng Da Ju Yuan
1 Shengfu Lu, Gulou Qu, Fuzhou 350001

5. Jinyi Guoji Dianyingcheng, Fuzhou Jinyi International Cinemas
193 Gongye Lu, taijiang Qu, Fuzhou 350001

6. Le Cafe on Hualin Lu (Road) a block West of Wu Shi Lu is an expatriate hangout, although it has recently been taken over by the Taiwanese and has lost some popularity. It is busiest on Friday evenings. Tell a cab driver "wu yi dasha"; that is a hotel next door.

7. The Party Bar on Tong Hu Lu, about 50 meters South of the main gate of West Lake Park, has cheap beer, free pool table and live music. Popular with locals and
expats, sometimes quite crowded or noisy on weekends. FOOTNOTE : Now deserted by foreigners since the tragic murder of Richard Gribble, a 23 year old Australian, by patrons of this bar.

8. Tony's Small Bar, across the street from Party Bar, has an English-speaking owner and is quieter.
Shao Yuan Yi Hao, on Bai Ma Lu has a host of foreign beers, British, German and Belgian as well as fine wines and beautiful decor and people. Bit pricey, but worth it for the music and atmosphere. It is a beautifully remodelled warehouse, the sort of design you might expect in a Western city or perhaps Shanghai, but unique in Fuzhou.

9. 1-2-3 Bar almost opposite Shao Yuan Yi Hao on Bai Ma Lu. Cheap beer, convivial atmosphere, sometimes live music, stays open as long as you're drinking/semi-conscious. The sign says 1-2-3, but Chinese pronounce it "do-re-mi" for reasons that are not at all clear to the writer.

10. Club Blog Club is a coffee shop managed by a Western resident that overlooks the West Lake. Address: 136 Hubin Road. Web site: http://mywebpage.netscape.com/clubblogclub

11. "York" Bar so named by foreigners because it's behind York School on Hubin Lu. A lively and convivial atmosphere, cheap, cold beer, live music from a foreign band on Friday nights. All this PLUS a pet iguana in a tank near the door. Stunning.

12. The Bamboo Bar - about 200 metres from Shao Yuan Yi Hao nearer to Yang Qiao Lu. Cheap beer, waterside tables, live football games on TV. Pushy owner, but easily ignored after a couple of beers!

Ningbo (宁波) was one of China's oldest cities with a history dating back to 4800 B.C. the Hemudu culture. Ningbo was known as a major trading port along with Yangzhou and Guangzhou in the Tang dynasty; thereafter, the major ports for foreign trade in the Song dynasty. Ningbo was one of the five Chinese treaty ports opened by the Treaty of Nanjing (signed in 1842) at the end of the First Opium War between Britain and China. During the war, British forces took possession of the walled city of Ningbo briefly after storming the fortified town of Zhenhai at the mouth of the Yong River on October 10, 1841. In 1864 the forces of the Taiping Rebellion held the town for six months.
